Kate Middleton undoubtedly had access to just about every makeup brand in the world for her wedding to Prince William on April 29, 2011, but the Duchess of Cambridge had just one in mind—particularly as far as her eyeliner was concerned!

According to People, Middleton, 37, put her trust in Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Eyeliner Gel ($27, available at Nordstrom) to get her through her big day sans tear streaks.

The royal had her reasons: The best-selling, highly pigmented product boasts up to 12 hours of water, sweat, and humidity-proof wear. In short? Once applied, this stuff is staying put—even though those wedding-day tears.

Another added bonus? Though it has a liquid-like effect, its gel base makes it much easier to apply. Of course, the bride would’ve been just fine either way—Middleton famously got several private lessons from London-based makeup artist Arabella Preston in order to be able to do her own makeup for her nuptials. (Yes, you read that right!)

The makeup guru herself, Bobbi Brown, for one, was certainly impressed: “Catherine looked absolutely stunning,” she said in a statement per People. “I wouldn’t have changed a thing about her makeup. She looked beautiful, fresh and most importantly, happy.”

In addition to her performance-based eyeliner, Middleton also favored Brown’s products for the rest of her look, opting for Slate and Ivory eyeshadows (both $27, available to Nordstrom) for her lid and crease, topped off with the brand’s No-Smudge Waterproof Mascara ($31, available at Nordstrom) (added insurance there’d be no raccoon eyes in sight, no doubt).

To get that rosy glow, Middleton chose a Pale Pink Blush ($32, available at Nordstrom) topped off with highlighter in the form of a Shimmer Brick in Pink Quartz] ($48, available at Nordstrom).

As for her pout, Middleton opted to keep it neutral, choosing Bobbi Brown’s Sandwash Pink Lipstick ($29, available at Nordstrom) and topping it off with a tube of Crystal Lip Gloss ($29, available at Nordstrom).

The result? A subtle-yet-gorgeous effect that captivated well, the world.
