As if she wasn't already the most stunning royal ever, Princess Kate, looked like her most regal self earlier this week during a state dinner at Buckingham Palace to welcome the President of the People's Republic of China. But what made her royal ensemble even more meaningful were her diamond-studded accessories, more specifically, one of her bracelets, which was worn by Queen Elizabeth herself on her wedding day!
According to People, the shimmering design worn on Kate's left wrist was, indeed, worn by Queen Elizabeth to her wedding. It was designed by Prince Phillip and given to his bride on their wedding day in 1947. Three large diamonds in the piece are flanked by stepped geometric stones. Making the legacy of this piece even more special, the diamonds for this bracelet (and the Queen's engagement ring) were taken from Prince Philip's mother's, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark's, tiara.
"I think it certainly shows the high esteem that the duchess is held in," Elizabeth Galton, Mappin and Webb's Creative Director, a brand whose served the royals since 1775, told People of Kate's latest accessory. "The Queen's private collection is obviously very personal."
In fact, the Queen most recently wore the same bracelet for her diamond jubilee!
Her seat at the banquet, too, was quite significant. She was sitting one spot away from the Queen! "The fact that she was seated in the second most prominent position at the banquet speaks volumes," Galton explains.
