You've heard of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants before, right? (If not, where were you in 2005?) But what about "The Sisterhood of #TheJustMarriedJacket?" If you're not familiar with that Instagram hashtag, you ought to be.
It all started when one very stylish bride named Sylvia Wong decided to add a little oomph to her courthouse wedding dress by topping it off with her fave leather jacket, calligraphing "Just Married" onto the back of it. Too cool, right? Well, since tying the knot, Sylvia has passed on the jacket to 25 different rock 'n roll brides, who recently all gathered in Toronto to meet for the very first time—and Brides was there to capture it all!
"I didn't really want it to sit in the closet and collect dust, so what I did was I posted it on an online trading site," Sylvia told Brides of her trendy topper. "There was such an overwhelming response for it that I decided to keep it and rent it out every single weekend for just a bottle of wine."
25 brides have rented #TheJustMarriedJacket so far, trading Sylvia a bottle of wine for a weekend of wear. "When you get it, you feel like it's already lived all these other stories," said one member of this little bride tribe.
One of those stories is that of a Toronto bride who was already planning on donning a leather moto jacket on her big day in honor of her father and serendipitously stumbled across Sylvia's post. "My dad passed away when I was 19 and he and I used to ride motorcycles together," she explained. "I wore the jacket leaving with my brand new husband, after we walked down the aisle and we went for a little hike together and it really felt like my dad was there with me."
More brides shared their stories with #TheJustMarriedJacket in the exclusive Brides video above.
"It went from being my favorite leather jacket into something so much bigger than that with just a bit of paint," says Sylvia. "It may seem like a small detail, but the involvement it's had with so many different weddings has been so special."
