After a three-and-a-half-month relationship, Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth are officially engaged to be married! Duggar, 19, currently stars on the TLC reality show Counting On. She is part of the ultrareligious Duggar family, which entered into the pop-culture lexicon with the reality show 19 Kids and Counting. She and Forsyth were longtime friends first, and on November 15, 2016, the couple announced that they were entering a "courtship"—the term the Duggar family uses for a relationship. If they're following the same courtship rules Duggar's older sisters Jill, Jessa, and Jinger abided by, that means they spent the past few months accompanied by chaperones and limiting physical contact to hugs. Now that they're engaged, they'll be allowed to engage in hand-holding too.
The couple announced the news with a video on TLC's website.
"Well, we were gonna go horse riding, and I decided to bring [my sisters] Johannah and Jennifer along because I knew that they would enjoy that, and they got to be the chaperones for this date," Duggar said in the video. "So, Austin made this day really, really special, and he asked me to marry him, and I said yes." Duggar is super excited to keep moving toward the future with Forsyth. "I'm looking forward to just being able to do all of our wedding planning together and getting to know him even better."
Forsyth expressed excitement as well. "I feel like engagement is more special because we're committed to each other now, and we're just moving forward to the day that we get married, and it's exciting," Forsyth added in the video. Us reports that the couple got engaged in a wooded area that bears a lot of significance for Forsyth. "It’s a place that I’ve come many times to just get away and spend time with the Lord," he said. "I just knew that this was the place that I wanted to ask her."
