The Duggars: never leaving us with a dull moment. In October, TLC shared footage from Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell's nuptials during an episode of Counting On, but the show recently gave viewers an additional, intimate look into their big day via a 90-minute special on the couple's wedding—and it's just as Duggar-y as you'd imagine. The episode, named "Joe and Kendra Say I Do," aired Monday evening and gave fans all the details on the couple's wedding planning process, rehearsals, and yes, their glorious first kiss.
The 22-year-old reality star and his 19-year-old bride tied the knot on September 8, at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The ceremony was officiated by Caldwell's father, who is a pastor. Following the ceremony, the two jetted off to a relaxing honeymoon in Greece—but like any wedding, it wasn't all smooth sailing behind the scenes.
The TV special revealed all of the prep that went into the couple's wedding celebration, which included Joseph's work on the couple's future house, Kendra's dress-shopping experience, and the couple's expectation for their first kiss together. As Duggar fans know, most acts of intimacy and physical contact are off-limits until marriage, so the couple's first kiss would be a major milestone. However, the bride said she wasn't initially focused on their first kiss.
"So we kinda talked about the first kiss a little bit here and there, but I didn't really have the urge to kiss him for a very long time," she said before reassuring her husband, "But... the closer we got to the wedding, the more I would tell him, 'I can't wait to kiss you!' "
The groom revealed that the two had a plan of action for the moment, considering neither of them had ever done it before. "She said for me to just go ahead and lead...That way I can hit it right on, and she'll definitely do her part once I get there," Joseph said.
"When I kissed Kendra, it was everything I'd ever hoped and more. It was a different feel than I thought it would be. Because if you, like, kiss a baby's forehead, it's different than kissing somebody on the lips," he explained. "And especially because we waited to kiss, I think it made it so much better than anything in the world."
"It was the best kiss ever," Caldwell reassured him, adding, "It was the most amazing thing ever. I forgot about all the people, and everyone around, and it just felt like it was just the two of us and it was a really special moment."
"Everything and beyond that we thought it would be," her groom added.
"After the first kiss, we were like, wow!" Caldwell replied. "It was amazing. When we left we were just like, 'That was the best ever!' "
And the two got right to business following that kiss: Three months after their wedding, the newlyweds announced that they are expecting their first child together. The couple revealed last month that they are having a baby boy.
“Wow! We are so happy to learn that our firstborn is a boy! Our minds are already racing toward all the future memories to be made with this little guy!” the couple wrote in a joint statement at the time, sharing a photo of themselves with blue-hued powder exploding in the background. “Most of all, we are already asking God to bless him and help us grow him into a loving and faithful follower of Christ!”
