The rumor mill has been churning with details about Johnny Depp's upcoming wedding to fiancée Amber Heard for weeks, but it turns out the two have already wed under the radar! In order to avoid the legal red tape of tying the knot overseas, Depp and Heard reportedly made their union official in a private stateside ceremony.
According to People the pair got married in a quiet civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles on Tuesday ahead of the larger bash that is still set to take place on Depp's private island in the Bahamas this weekend. While their second wedding on Little Hall's Pond Cay island will be a more celebratory bash, the couple is still expecting only 50 guests, which will include Heard's family and Depp's two children Lily-Rose and Jack.
The pair, who met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011, have been engaged since last January and have kept the details of their relationship relatively private. But in a recent turn of events, Depp has been dishing sweet details about his leading lady and signing her praises to just about anyone who will hear them!
He recently told NBC's "Today" show, "She's a wonderful girl. She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me." And sources are saying the feeling is mutual. According to People, Heard is just as smitten with Depp and sources close to the couple have been saying, "They're great together."
While we're still looking forward to seeing Heard walk down a beachy aisle in a Stella McCartney wedding dress this weekend, the pair made a smart decision by legally wedding stateside before their far-flung affair.
