Uncle Jesse isn't just the "fun uncle" anymore—he's a fun dad now, too. On Sunday night, John Stamos took to Instagram to share that he and wife Caitlin McHugh had welcomed their first child together. The actor posted a black and white photo of the newborn sleeping on his chest, and they captioned it, "From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son. Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father) #NotJustanUncleAnymore #Overjoyed."
Stamos, 54, and McHugh, 32, who were engaged at Disneyland in October 2017 and tied the knot in a Los Angeles ceremony in February, announced that they were expecting in December. "We have the same morals and the same values, that all clicked nicely. So we said, 'Oh, well, maybe we should have a family,'" Stamos told People at the time. He added that McHugh had suggested they start that family before their wedding; when he asked why, she jokingly responded, "Because you're old."
That said, as soon as the couple found out they were going to have a baby, Stamos decided it was time to put a ring on it. "The [pregnancy] happened. Then I said, I better have a ring on her finger because it's the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway," he told People. "So I called her parents to ask, and it was like, 'You better!'" McHugh added, "The look on John's face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless. It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn't sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!"
Stamos, who told the outlet that he "always wanted to be a dad," noted that he had gotten plenty of training for fatherhood throughout his career. "I'll be a fun dad. I've been practicing for a long time" he said. "I've done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV...all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I'll probably just do all that stuff."
