Well, file this one into the "making the best out of two unfortunate situations" category.
John Cena, who recently called off his engagement to Nikki Bella, his partner of six years—news of which he's been publicly taking quite hard—has offered to support Meghan Markle with one aspect of her upcoming royal wedding to Prince Harry that's currently on the fritz.
Appearing as a co-host of Today alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Tuesday, Cena offered to walk Markle down the aisle on her big day, owing to the fact that her father, Thomas Markle, will reportedly no longer be able to attend—due to required open-heart surgery and public embarrassment about staging some paparazzi photos, which he admitted were "stupid and hammy" in an attempt to look more favorable in the public eye.
"Hey John. This wedding, we’re going to have the Royals, we’re going to have Diana’s family, the Spencers, now we’re going to have the Markle family. I think we may need you here, my man, to intervene," NBC's royal correspondent, Keir Simmons, proposed on-air. "She is in need of someone to give her away, isn’t she? Who better than you?" Cena responded earnestly, if not a little intrigued: "It seems like there is some drama that is in need of a special guest referee. I can hop on a plane, I can get there in a few days."
As for who will actually be walking Markle down the aisle on Saturday at Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace is asking everyone to allow Markle and Prince Harry the "understanding" and "respect" they are entitled to in the days before the big day. "This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding," a palace spokesman said in a statement. "She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation."
