Though she's normally extremely private, Jodie Foster has some recent news that she couldn't help but share: She married girlfriend Alexandra Hedison this past weekend, which E! News confirms.
The Oscar winner officially came out when accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Golden Globes. "This is not going to be a big coming out speech tonight because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the stone age — in those very quaint days when a fragile girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers, and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her," she said during her now iconic speech.
Foster, who's the latest celebrity to throw a surprise wedding, has been dating her girlfriend for almost a year. Hedison is a well-known photographer, but she's done some acting, too, playing Dylan Moreland for three seasons on Showtime's hit drama series The L Word. She also dated Ellen DeGeneres for three years before they called it quits in 2004 (DeGeneres reportedly left Hedison for wife Portia Rossi).
Though Foster prefers to keep her personal life under wraps, rumors started swirling about the newlywed's relationship last summer after being spotted together at a technology seminar in Los Angeles. They also attended the opening of Alan Cumming's Macbeth in New York nearly a year ago, but weren't pictured together. Back in September, sources revealed to E! News that "It's pretty serious. They're totally in love."
This marks Foster's first marriage, but she was with ex-partner Cydney Bernard, with whom she is raising their two sons Charles and Kit, for 20 years until 2008.
Major mazels to the happy couple!
