J.J. Watt and Kealia Ohai are winning at love! The Houston Texans defensive end popped the question to his girlfriend of more than three years, Kealia Ohai—a.k.a. the Houston Dash soccer captain—on Sunday, May 26.
“I’m the luckiest man in the world. #SheSaidYes,” Watt, 30, captioned a series of photos on Instagram from his big moment with his bride-to-be, 27.
The couple’s friends, including J.J.’s brother T.J. Watt and Justin Timberlake, chimed in on the post. “This wedding will be EPIC!” T.J. wrote.
Added Timberlake: “We texting and you don’t even bring this up?!?!?! WOW! Congrats, brother!!!”
Ohai also shared the stunning shots, which feature the football player taking one knee next to the ocean at sunset. “Still can’t believe I get to be with you forever,” she wrote. “I love you @jjwatt.”
“Forever & Always,” the future groom responded.
The athletes appear to be living life to the fullest while on vacation, as Watt documented on Instagram Stories: In addition to his proposal, the twosome enjoyed golf, arcade games and beachside meals of blackened fish tacos and chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit and champagne.
“My fiancée,” he captioned a snap of Ohai seated at an outdoor table.
According to People, the couple was introduced by Watt's teammate, Brian Cushing, who is married to Ohai's sister, Megan.
Though they didn’t reveal their relationship until 2017, when Ohai confirmed that she was dating the Wisconsin native on a podcast episode of “2 Up Front,” they sparked dating buzz as far back as 2016 after Watt showed up to a press conference in a jersey featuring Ohai's number.
These days, the pair are admittedly competitive, though Watt says they enjoy being able to challenge each other. “She’s awesome,” he told People in February 2017. “We just went to Mexico for her birthday and the whole weekend was competition — whether it was ping pong or the weight room. She’s extremely competitive which is a ton of fun. She’s incredible.”
He doubled down on his statements in December, telling the magazine, “We’re very competitive. Very, very competitive and we like to workout together. She’s much faster than me, [while] I’m slightly stronger.”
Still, they're plenty supportive of each other when it counts: When Watt experienced a season-ending leg injury in October 2017, Ohai was there to help him through. She shared photos of him first on a crutch then in his uniform in September 2018. “11 months ago, we sat in a hospital room while the doctors told us you may never play football again,” she wrote at the time. “You walked up and down the hallway learning how you would use your crutches for the next 8 weeks. Today, you are starting your 8th NFL season.
I am so incredibly proud and inspired by you.”
Watt is equally as enamored with his future spouse: “[This is] one of my favorite videos of all time simply because it captures the pure joy and smiles (and ridiculousness) that you bring to my life without even trying,” he captioned a sweet clip of himself laughing with Ohai for her birthday on January 31, 2019. I am so thankful to have you in my life.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
