What do a man in an Elmo suit, a scarf, a Christmas tree topper, and a license plate, and a life-sized cardboard cutout of a celebrity have in common? Nothing, usually — until now! Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, a boyfriend commissioned a scavenger hunt for his unsuspecting girlfriend to perform, as a ruse to propose on TV!
Kimmel announced during the show that he wanted to do a "Hollywood Bingo Scavenger Hunt" to get into the holiday spirit and hand out some prizes to his audience. After woman named Sandra was chosen, Kimmel sent her out onto Hollywood Boulevard to collect those items and bring them back to the studio. As soon as she left, Kimmel revealed that the items were meaningless, and that the stunt was put in place after Sandra's boyfriend, David, reached out and asked if he could pop the question as a surprise.
And boy was it. Unbeknownst to Sandra, David was inside the Elmo suit that she brought back and not at home in Orange County, as she'd assumed. Watch the video above to see her stunned reaction!
Spoiler alert: The proposal is adorable and heart-warming, but it was also hilarious to see the plan almost go off the rails. Kimmel's sidekick selected Sandra's seat number "randomly" (her seat number, 37, was written on all of the balls inside the cage so the plan would work), but someone else was sitting in the seat! That and a microphone mishap threatened to make things go awry, but luckily, everything else went according to plan Sandra and David will live happily ever after.
