“It wasn’t the dream wedding you deserved.”

Many brides dream of having a storybook wedding, but at the end of the day, it’s the marriage that counts—just ask Cash Warren and Jessica Alba. The producer and the Honest Company CEO may not have had the most magical ceremony, per se, but their relationship is still going strong after 11 years.

Warren, 40, recalled his perfectly-imperfect wedding day with the actress, 38, in honor of the couple’s recent anniversary.

“It wasn’t the dream wedding you deserved,” he confessed on Instagram. “In fact, it was laughably awkward. Standing under an arch of dusty plastic flowers in the courthouse chapel, we held hands and said ‘I do.’ No friends or family in attendance .... just you, me and the courthouse employee who served as our witness.”

Still, there was something incredibly romantic about their spur-of-the-moment elopement. “We walked out holding hands, giggling with excitement and a touch of nervousness,” Warren reminisced. “I remember opening the car door for you and as you climbed in, calling you Mrs. Warren for the first time.”

The pair hadn’t planned to tie the knot. In fact, according to Warren, they had previously been opposed to the idea. “Neither of us thought marriage was important,” he explained. “It felt outdated and we weren’t going to fall for an antiquated social construction.”

But something changed ahead of the arrival of their first child, Honor (now 10). “We were [lying] in bed having one of those amazing lazy mornings where we we’d do nothing. You were 9 months pregnant ...” Warren remembered. “Not sure who thought of it first but the decision we made that day would forever change the course of our lives. We hopped up, got dressed and drove straight to the courthouse."

The rest, as they say, is history. “11 years and 3 kids later, we’re still learning, growing, giggling and loving,” the film buff said. (The duo also share daughter Haven, 7, and son Hayes, 1.)

Alba also gushed about her longtime love on their anniversary, sharing a gallery of photos on Instagram of the two together over the years. “My best friend, my everything—we are better together—the life we dreamt of and manifested together is beyond anything I could have imagined,” she gushed. “I love you with my whole self... we got this #rideordie por vida.”

Warren and Alba met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2004. They eloped on May 19, 2008, and later threw a post-wedding bash at their home in Beverly Hills for family and friends.

Though their journey to marriage wasn’t the most traditional, it certainly seems to have worked for them—congratulations to the happy couple!
