There have been many contenders in the running for the prize of best dressed guest at the royal wedding, including Amal Clooney's head-to-toe yellow look, Oprah and her last-minute Stella McCartney dress, and Queen Elizabeth and her lime green morning suit, to name just a few. But, based on new details that have only recently emerged about the reception, the clear winner is James Corden, who showed up in full King Henry VIII-inspired garb.
According to People, the Late Late Show host was the last person to arrive at the party, and made a serious (read: hilarious) fashion statement when he did. "James Corden came in last, arriving in a Henry VIII costume, saying he didn't know what to wear to a royal wedding," a fellow reception guest told the outlet. "He had taken notes all the way through the day. He was making quips about that."
Admittedly, the royal wedding did have a strict dress code, and Corden ensured that he would stick to it by literally wearing what the royals wear—or at least, what they wore in the 16th century. For the ceremony, however, Corden stuck with something a bit more modern, showing up to St. George's Chapel in a three-piece suit that was definitely in line with the "morning dress" requirement for male guests.
Though he was appropriately dressed for it, Corden recently admitted that he had some difficulty making it through the ceremony for an entirely different, non-clothing-related reason. “The worst part of the ceremony for me was, there was flowers everywhere, the most beautiful flowers you've ever seen. And I get quite bad allergies if I'm in such close proximity to flowers, so for a lot of the ceremony, I just needed to sneeze,” he said on Monday night's episode of the Late Late Show. “Right at the point when the archbishop was saying, ‘If anyone knows of any reason…’ and I was like, ‘Please don’t sneeze. Please don’t sneeze.’”
