When you’re planning your wedding it’s important to pick vendors that you want as a couple, because your guests will probably be ungrateful anyway—and this story just proved our point.
A guest at a recent wedding secretly photographed the catering spread and shared it on Facebook in a wedding shaming group—because yes, those exist. According to photos obtained by the Daily Mail, the wedding reception menu consisted of slices of “plastic cheese” as the poster referred to it, a veggie tray, cubes of melon, and oranges slices with the grocery store stickers still on them. For dessert, they served brownies. The commenters in this group took issue with everything.
"A wedding feast for your eyes," the anonymous guest, reportedly from the United States, wrote alongside the photos.
“This is basically what we served at my three-year-old's birthday party,” one commenter wrote, per the Daily Mail. “Except we had quiche and strawberries.”
“They took the time to unwrap hundreds of slices of fake cheese but couldn't be bothered to take the sticker off the fruit?” another confused person posted.
While this spread is admittedly not what most people are expecting when attending a wedding, some commenters brought up how expensive weddings can be and defended the couple, pointing out that this might be all they could afford.
So while this wedding may not fall within the range of wedding averages, it doesn’t make the wedding day any less special for the couple. They shouldn’t be shamed for having the wedding they want and can afford—or perhaps there was a snafu with their caterer. If you’re a wedding guest with a different opinion, who requires nothing less than caviar at the reception, consider chipping in for the big day yourself. We’re sure the bride and groom will be more than happy to take your money.
