When planning the perfect proposal, you want to make the big moment as meaningful as possible. And whether you pop the question at a significant spot from your relationship or wait for just the right date (a birthday, perhaps?), there are many ways to make getting down on one knee unforgettable. But one groom-to-be went above and beyond when planning the perfect proposal.
On June 12, 2018, Frank Mlotkiewicz brought his girlfriend, Jamie Fidler, and her 7-year-old son, Riley Hunt, to Sugarloaf Mountain in Maryland. But Riley wasn't just there to watch the big moment: Frank included Riley in his big proposal in the sweetest way.
We talked to the couple to see how Frank pulled it off with Riley by his side.
Frank, how did you plan this?
This was the most thought-out plan I’ve ever had to come up with. It all started with Jamie wanting to get family pictures done. So we scheduled a photo session with Leigh Anne Brader Photography, who our friends have previously used and we were in love with her work. So about a month before our session, I was texting our friend Paige and Leigh Anne trying to come up with an idea. Finally, we decided that once we got to the top of [Sugarloaf] mountain, Leigh Anne was going to suggest that Riley pretend to whisper a secret into his Mommy’s ear. So as Jamie was crouching trying to hear Riley, he whispered, “Will you marry Frank?” She turned around to me on one knee and I said “Jamie Lynne Fidler, with Riley’s permission, will you marry me?” She said, “Of course!” As I was hugging her, Riley wrapped his arms around us so tight.
How were you feeling?
I wasn’t nervous, I was more excited than anything. I was slightly worried that Riley would spoil the surprise when he kept asking, “Frank, is it time?”
What was the ring?
The ring is a classic round stone, with a diamond band.
Jamie, what were you thinking? Did you sense something was happening?
I was completely oblivious to anything going on around me. We had planned family photos and my dress just worked out perfectly for the occasion.
W. hat was Riley’s reaction to the whole thing?
When I asked for Riley’s permission to marry his mom, he couldn’t stop giggling and told me “YES!” repeatedly. Once I actually proposed, he couldn’t stop smiling and hugging us.
