Metallic eyeshadow instantly adds a cool, modern edge to bridal makeup. "It brightens up your eyes, plus it photographs beautifully," says New York City makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor. Here's how to do it right for your big day.
1. Smooth on an eyeshadow primer.
2. Choose your metal.
"Shades of gold, copper, and bronze are timeless, so your wedding photos will be too," says Sotomayor. We love Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadow in Jean. ($32, available at Nordstrom)
3. Brush on the color.
Focus on the center of the lid, blending up to the crease with a soft fluffy brush. For an extra kick, add a little light gold in the inner corners. "This enhances eyes and makes them look more awake," says Sotomayor. Try Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Mono in Sunstone. ($37, available at Saks Fifth Avenue)
4. Then brush on some more.
For the best, most long-wearing results, apply a matching powder shadow right on top of the cream shadow to help set it in place. We love bareMinerals Eyecolor in Queen Phyllis. ($14, available at Bare Escentuals)
5. Finish with eyeliner and mascara.
"Metallic shadows make your eyes radiate with light, so go heavier with your mascara and liner to add definition," says Sotomayor. Try Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black and Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Super Curling & Lifting Mascara. ($10 and $24, available at Ulta)
