Personalizing your wedding ceremony or reception is always a great idea! Whether you're planning a formal event or something more casual and low-key, there's plenty of room to introduce elements of your story and personality as a couple throughout the day. Here, we give three great ideas for making a wedding reception feel totally unique and from the heart.
Ask guests to bring a photo of themselves with one or both of you.
Put someone in charge of attaching them to a large board. It's a great conversation piece at the reception and will be a wonderful keepsake for you.
Incorporate the food of your romance into the menu.
Did you meet over the tomato bins at a farmer's market? Start your meal with a salad of sliced heirloom tomatoes. Were root beer floats an important part of your courtship? Set up a soda stand. You could even create a meal based on tastes you discovered together on vacation: Freshly shucked oysters in honor of summer at the beach or Peking duck from a weekend in San Francisco. Menu cards can list each course and its significance to your relationship.
Acknowledge family milestones.
If your Uncle Joe recently turned 80, ask your guests to toast his health. You could announce the birth of a new baby, a sibling's graduation, or your parent's anniversary — just make sure you stop at one or two family highlights.
