With the amazing year Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just shared, one would wonder how on earth the royal couple could give 2017 a proper send-off. Well, suitable celebrations ain’t no thing for this duo. While you were drinking champagne on your couch, they headed to the south of France, jetting off to Monaco on December 31 to ring in the new year with friends. If it makes you feel any better, the royal couple surprisingly flew economy—with three reserved rows, of course.
According to the Daily Mail, the engaged couple kept their travel on British Airways well below the royal standard for the short ride, opting to fly economy for their New Year’s getaway. However, unlike when you and your love vacay, Prince Harry and Meghan took up the last three rows of the plane for themselves and their security detail.
Despite its humble beginnings, their stay in Monaco presumably got a lot more lavish once they landed. This Mediterranean hot spot is known for its party scene and reputation as an infamous getaway for the world’s wealthiest travelers.
"What’s certain is that they were partying like tycoons on New Year’s Day," a source told the Daily Mail. "Fun around Monaco is never understated and always costs a fortune."
Harry and Meghan are believed to have met up with Prince Albert, son of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier, along with his wife, Princess Charlene. How’s that for an elite double date?
Besides the royal company and a stay at a private residence in the Riviera region, we don’t know much about how the pair spent their trip because security was just that tight. In addition to the three bodyguards who made the trip with them, Harry and Meghan were greeted by several members of France’s elite Service de la Protection who flew down from Paris to guard them during their stay.
Reportedly, the couple flew back to London on Tuesday after just a two-night trip. With the royal wedding date rapidly approaching (May 19!!), the pair is probably coming back to prepare for the busy year ahead.
