Chance the Rapper (whose given name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett) is getting married this weekend to Kirsten Corley, his longtime girlfriend and the mother of his daughter. And in a sweet gesture for the social media age, Chance took to Twitter to share the story of how he met his future wife. Fair warning: It's super sweet.

“Storytime. A thread on how I met my wife,” he wrote alongside an old photo of Corley. As it turns out, the two have known each other since they were children and met at an office party they attended with their respective parents where, as a nine-year-old, Chance says he was "probably playing a Game Boy in a corner eating candy, initially unimpressed by my surroundings.” Until he noticed Corley, that is.

She and two other girls performed to Destiny's Child's "Independent Women," and Chance was mesmerized. “All three heads begin to raise slowly in unison. They look like angels,” he said. “Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl [I’ve] ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth,” he continued. “I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her.”

“Young me was shy,” he said, remembering the moment when his dad was pushing him to get out on the floor and perform too. “This wasn’t the time or place. Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl.” Instead of making a move, he says, “So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself.”

But now, 16 years later, the couple will finally get that dance. “This wknd is the time, and the place is my wedding,” Chance wrote. “I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”

Hopefully he'll share that special moment with his fans, too!
