Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have been in love for years, but it took them quite some time to finally tie the knot. The Isn't It Romantic actor opened up about his relationship, revealing why the a-list lovebirds finally decided to say their "I Do's."
“We’ve been through so much together over the last 10 years, so [I] felt like it was time,” Hemsworth, 29, told Sunday TODAY in a recent interview. “I feel really happy and really fortunate to be with such a great person.”
The 29-year-old Australian native and the 26-year-old "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" singer wed in an intimate ceremony at their home in Nashville on December 23, 2018. “It was a really special day,” Hemsworth said of his big day. “It was pretty much just immediate family.”
He added, “We just try to keep as much of it private as we can. A lot of things we can’t control, obviously. But I think not buying into the things that are, maybe, said about us.”
Earlier this month, the Hunger Games alum confirmed that his wife is planning to take his last name. “She will still be obviously known as Miley Cyrus, but she took my name, which is great," he said during an interview with Live With Kelly and Ryan. "That was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn’t ask her to take my name, but she was like, ‘No, of course I’m taking your name.’”
But that's not the only new name for Cyrus. Hemsworth revealed that he's already referring to her as his wife. “It’s become a little more normal, but the first couple of weeks it was ... I mean, it’s only been a month and a half,” he said. “But the first couple of weeks was really foreign to me, with ‘wife’ and ‘husband.’”
Cyrus recently shut down rumors that the two are expecting their first child together, but the two seem to be loving married life as is.
