New York—At Market today, our first stop was a visit to Haviland. It was breakfast time and the wonderful folks there graciously served coffee which tasted all the better for being served in a Haviland cup. Mine was in the Val de Loire pattern. Coffee in a porcelain cup somehow always tastes better.
New out from the venerable French firm this year is the pattern L'Animal. And because of the way each plate is made, no two will have exactly the same spots (like leopards in the wild?) The plates have a slightly raised texture and deep tones. And I loved how you could mix the animal patterns with solid chargers or use the whole set to create a very luxurious dining atmosphere. —Michelle Preli
