Gypsy Rose Blanchard's name has been back in the headlines a lot recently, first, thanks to Hulu's The Act, a scripted series that depicts a fictionalized version of the story of Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee. The streaming service describes the premise of the show as "a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder."

And now, because Blanchard is reportedly engaged to be married to a man she met while currently serving time in prison for the second-degree murder of her mother.

(Gypsy was confined to a wheelchair and in and out of hospitals for much of her young life, at her own mother's hand.)

News of the engagement was first broken by In Touch. The publication spoke with a family friend, Fancy Macelli, who revealed, "She [Blanchard] keeps him very private. We’re not going to release his name or anything like that, but she does have a fiancé. That’s something she wouldn’t have ever been able to do with her mom, be engaged!”

The two apparently met through a prison pen-pal program. “He started writing her and then visited her,” Fancy said. “They just grew to have a relationship. They’re taking it slow. They don’t know exactly what they’re going to do when she gets out. It’s a long way down the road, obviously, so things can change.”

One thing that is probably on their list of to-dos when Blanchard gets out is figuring out their engagement ring situation, which is currently just as...peculiar as their meet cute: The engagement ring she is currently wearing is from a fellow inmate at Missouri's Chillicothe Correctional Center, where she is serving her prison sentence.

"Another inmate was getting divorced and gave her that for her to just have, so that she could feel good about it," Fancy told E! News. "They'll go together and pick out rings, obviously later, at a time when she's out and they could do that and have their own intimate moment."

The initial report does claim that the mystery man and Blanchard do have in-person visits and speak a few times a week (but no word on if he proposed in a special way). The man also allegedly has a relationship with 27-year-old Blanchard's father and stepmother, so maybe they can help plan something special.

Blanchard pleaded guilty to second degree murder in July 2015 and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. She is eligible for parole as soon as 2024.
