Not many couples get a chance to say "I do" to each other twice! But Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady were one of those lucky couples that got to have two magical wedding days. After a short engagement, the supermodel and the NFL quarterback made it official in 2009. And they liked it so much they did it twice!
Secret Wedding in Santa Monica
The gorgeous couple's first nuptials on February 26, 2009, was all about family. After having been engaged for only a month, the couple secretly tied the knot in an ultra-private 20-person ceremony at the Santa Monica Catholic Church, with immediate family and close friends only.
For the church ceremony, the Bünchen wore an off-the-shoulder lace wedding dress with a lace-trimmed veil, while her groom wore a black suit. For the newlywed's intimate at-home reception, the bride changed into a second wedding dress: a sequin Dolce & Gabbana gown.
"We planned [the wedding] in like 10 days, and it was perfect," Brady told GQ in 2009 of the Santa Monica ceremony. "We went back to the house and I barbecued aged New York strips. We had champagne, a cake, some ice cream. It was a great night."
Second Wedding in Costa Rica
A month and a half later Mr. and Mrs. Brady would say their "I do"s for a second time, jetting off to the model's house in Costa Rica for a tropical fun-filled weekend in an equally intimate event with only 25 guests.
The couple wanted to keep their day very private, so security was extra tight at Gisele's home in Santa Teresa in the Mal Pais region of Costa Rica. Adding a little drama to the celebration, the couple's security reportedly fired shots at paparazzi who were staked out near the property. That still didn't stop the persistent photogs from sneaking a few snaps of the bride in her silk sheath dress and the groom in a grey suit.
The couple spent the days leading up to their wedding much like any other couple would at a destination wedding: They hit the beach with their families and hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Milarepa hotel, where Brady also spent the day-of with a bachelor's brunch. Bündchen spent the afternoon of her wedding getting some sun before heading to the nearby Flor Blanca to get ready for the evening.
For their sunset ceremony, Gisele walked down the aisle in a sheath wedding gown, with a 10-foot-long veil and carrying a bouquet of white orchids.
After their two weddings in 2009, the couple would go on to become parents to Benjamin Rein Brady, 11, and Vivian Lake Brady, 8—as well as Brady's 13-year-old son John from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan. And they have lots to celebrate on their twelfth anniversary in 2021, including Brady's most recent Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
