In a new interview on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the model opens up about how the Brady-Bündchens came to be.
“We actually had a blind date," she said. "It was a funny story, because for some reason everybody thought they needed to, like, find me a boyfriend, so it was my third blind date."
“The other two were dinners, which, I was stuck there for an hour and a half thinking, ‘When can I get out? Where’s my food?'” she remembered. “The third blind date was actually Tom, and I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m not going on any more blind dates. Let’s meet for a drink,’ because, you know, a drink can take three minutes or two hours.”
Though it sounds like it was an A+ first date, Bündchen really only needed three minutes to know that she had found "the one."
“You know, when I saw those kind eyes, I literally fell in love, like, right away," she said. "I was like, ‘What?’ He was just so—you know how sweet he is.”
The couple married in 2009 in an intimate affair at a church in Santa Monica, California, then continued the celebration two months later at their home in Costa Rica. "Around people gathered in our open living room: Tom's and my entire extended family—including nieces—and three good friends apiece. On a nearby table strewn with candles and assorted crystals sat two bowls, one containing honey and the other rice. The honey, it is said, would sweeten our future, and the rice anticipates prosperity," she writes in her new memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, revealing that she wore a white slip dress and no shoes for the brief ceremony.
"There was no formal wedding reception afterward. It was more like a free-for-all, a joyful, relaxed party, just the way I'd always imagined it would be," she reveals. "People ate Mexican food and drank margaritas ... The kids went swimming in the pool, while guests danced around in their bathing suits."
