Last night's Super Bowl was filled with highs and lows, but few were as memorable as the moment when proud wife Gisele Bündchen stormed the field to congratulate her winning New England Patriots quarterback husband Tom Brady with their two kids. Luckily for us, that snapshot into their presumably happy family life isn't the only one we're getting this week. Bündchen, British Vogue's new cover star, opened up about her marriage of nearly six years to the magazine in an interview.
For starters, the fairytale-come-true romance between the football player and the model really was love at first sight. "I knew Tom was the one straightaway," she said of meeting him in 2006. "I could see it in his eyes that he was a man with integrity who believes in the same things I do."
Beyond that, she expounded on her belief in keeping her private life separate from her glamorous public image. "I'm a model as a job, I'm Gisele, the daughter of Valdir and Vania, I'm a woman, I am a model," she explained. "When I go home and shut the door, that's it. If I want to expose something, it should be my choice."
Balancing a harmonious domestic life with a globe-trotting career can be tough, especially for a mother like Bündchen, who has two children with Brady in addition to a stepchild from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan. She manages in spite of that, she told Vogue, thanks to her firm parenting strategy. "I'm very nurturing, I come from a large family and my parents were loving. But the most important thing for me as a mum is to keep my word," she said. "When I say no, I mean no. I always say they have all the time in the world to sit there saying, 'I want it, I want it,' but they are smart, and if I give in to them they know they can get away with it."
