Sorry William and Kate—it looks like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a different couple in mind to be the godparents of their firstborn. As if this royal baby couldn't get any luckier, the child may just have the coolest godparents to ever exist: According to a source from the Daily Mail, George and Amal Clooney are the top contenders for being the baby's godparents.
The source, who is reportedly close to both the royal family and the Clooneys, told the Daily Mail website, "Amal and Meghan have been close for years, and Harry and George have become buddies because of that. They're much closer than the headlines let on."
The publication also spoke to George's cousin Ben Breslin, who said that George would make a "wonderful" godfather to the royal couple's baby. "I'm all for it. He'd make a wonderful godfather, he'd make a wonderful just about anything—he's a good guy," Breslin added. More insiders for the site add that George considers himself a "shoo-in" for the position.
We're not surprised that George and Amal are in the running: Not only was the famous couple in attendance for the royal wedding, but the fab four reportedly vacationed together at the Clooney's house in Lake Como, Italy. But George and Amal have their hands full already with two children of their own: one-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
But don't worry, the choice likely won't cause any feuds in Kensington Palace. Kate Middleton and Prince William also opted for close friends to be their children's godparents, so Meghan and Harry would be keeping with tradition going with their pals instead of their in-laws.
We won't know whether or not the Clooneys will win the ultimate godparent title until next spring, but we can't imagine a more perfect duo to do the job.
