It's been one year since George and Amal Clooney tied the knot in a star-studded Italian wedding at Venice's Aman Canal Grande Hotel in September 2014. And while the actor may have just told Stephen Colbert he's no more than his powerhouse human rights barrister's arm candy, we know better. So in honor of this couple's first anniversary, here's a look back on our favorite moments of their first year as husband and wife.
When the actor installed a panic room to protect his wife: The couple spent much of the year renovating a mansion in Berkshire, England. In February, a source told Us Weekly the secure space wasn't for the actor. "Amal has high-profile clients in controversial cases," the source close to the couple disclosed, after admitting that this was really Clooney's doing. "She needs to be secure."
When we found out that mansion includes a nursery: Though the Hollywood star has previously said he's in no rush to be a dad, we found out in July the couple's first home together will include room for a baby. In fact, according to Us Weekly, the actor plans to have a baby by next year!
When Clooney took his wife back to his hometown: This couple may spend serious time jet-setting around the world, but the actor still made time to bring his wife back to his hometown of Augusta, Kentucky in June. While there, the pair had dinner at a local restaurant (where they sang to a woman celebrating her birthday), went to a pub, and hit up his family's favorite bakery, Magee's.
When Clooney gushed to Good Morning America that marriage had made him a better man: In May, the actor revealed to the show's hosts that, "Everything's different now. Actually it is. I was going to make a joke but it is, actually."
