We're still a ways off until the July season seven premier of HBO's Game of Thrones, but this wedding is giving us the serious dose of Westeros we were desperately craving. Photographer Katie Lee of Katherine Elena Photography just collaborated with Something Perfect Events and Events by Elizabeth Ashley to create a Game of Thrones stylized wedding shoot that'll have you wanting to change your wedding venue to Winterfell, stat.
Okay, truth be told, weddings never go smoothly for our fave GOT characters. There's usually more dismemberment than champagne toasts, but damn it, those weddings are pretty! And nothing proves it like this bridal shoot that took its inspiration straight from the HBO hit.
"Since the premier of the HBO television series, Game of Thrones, its popularity has grown in droves, so it was surprising to me when I had the idea to create a Game of Thrones styled wedding shoot that I couldn't really find a lot of inspiration," explained Katie Lee, the photographer behind the stunning snapshots that originally appeared on Huffington Post. "I knew that it would be a tough style to recreate while still managing to keep it elegant enough for a wedding."
But elegance is one of the first things you'll think of when you spot the Daenerys Targaryen and Sansa Stark lookalike brides starring in the shoot. "These two women are both very strong and beautiful but have a soft, elegant side to them as well," added stylist Samie Roberts of Something Perfect Events. "We wanted to portray this in both the dress styling as well as their attitudes. We reached out to a local designer, RCB Fashion, to create gowns that would fit the characters and leave others breathless." With an airy wedding-white caped sheath, a blue velvet gown, and gorgeous headdresses, have you ever seen a pair of brides so badass?
"After deciding on the fashion, the location was the next critical element of planning," said Roberts. "Smithmore Castle, a 121-acre private mountain estate, provided the perfect setting." Invitations for the stylized event were inspired from the romantic "Moon of my life. My sun and stars" quote from the show. And gilded dishes, calligraphed menus, velvet-backed chairs, and tapered candle sticks made up the Medieval-esque tablesetting.
A cake featuring dragon-like scales was made for the Mother of Dragons, herself. And no Game of Thrones wedding would be complete without a dire wolf. "Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Sanctuary, a not-for-profit sanctuary for abused wolfdogs who find themselves in need of love, shelter and care, provided the model," added Roberts.
We think it goes without saying that a dire wolf ring bearer totally beats your six-year-old nephew. (No matter how cute he is...)
