Is it safe to say this couple just won the game of thrones? We think so. With a little bit of luck and a lot of planning, Alyssa Celeste Wall and Dylan Richardson's fantasy wedding in Knoxville, TN, went off without a hitch—and thankfully, without an ounce of blood (we're looking at you, Red Wedding). Their big day, which featured not only a giant sword similar to Ned Stark's, but also an actual pack of wolves, looked so much like GoT we're actually surprised Daenerys didn't land in the middle on the back of one of her dragon children.
Scratch that—as it happens, a dragon was in attendance. Ok, before you get ahead of yourself, it was a fire-breathing dragon made of SUGAR, placed on top of the couple's cake. Terrifying, we know. As for the rabid pack of dire wolves, it turns out they were pretty harmless, no matter what the photos may make you think. Described as "lovely" and "talented," Alyssa told BRIDES.com that the animals were actually rented from Half Moon Ambassadors, a "small, USDA-licensed educational facility that is currently home to four ambassador wolves," according to the website.
Alyssa scored fantastical décor pieces from the Georgia Renaissance Festival a week before her wedding, and even wound up coming across the coolest dragon stem goblets that she had "ever seen." Um, same.
Beyond Game of Thrones, the fantasy-obsessed couple incorporated other elements into their big day that you might recognize. A Lord of the Rings color scheme was aced by using multiple shades of greens and golds in most of the décor. These hues allowed them to not only pay homage to LOTR, but also allowed them to keep a modern feel to the wedding while also staying true to the overall fantasy theme. Their wedding invites even included a quote from J.R.R. Tolkien:
"And he took her in his arms and kissed her under the sunlit sky, and he cared not that they stood high upon the walls in the sight of many."
Other themes came from (yep, you guessed it) Harry Potter, as well as the Elder Scrolls and the Witcher. Alyssa and Dylan's ceremony music featured beautiful orchestral music from GoT, LOTR, and Bethesda's Skyrim: The Elder Scrolls to complete the ethereal theme.
Contemplating planning your own fantasy wedding? Alyssa has some advice: "Have fun with it and don't be afraid to be different. My guests, even the more traditional ones, loved every fantasy element I included and still talk about their favorite parts of the wedding to this day! Be different and be yourself, and don't say 'no' just because something you really want to include is a little out of your budget. I wanted to do it right, so I planned my wedding across the course of two years to ensure I had the finances to fund what my now-husband and I wanted to include."
