They say rain is good luck on your wedding day—but it's not quite so lucky for your wedding hairstyle, is it? Whether your hair's curly or stick-straight, frizzed-out locks are never a good look with your veil and gown, and even the most failsafe blowout can't always withstand heat, humidity, and, worse, a dreaded rainstorm. Sure, you could double up on anti-frizz creams, serums, and oils, but all that product can seriously weigh down your 'do.
So when American Culture introduced a treatment called the Simply Smooth Keratin Reparative Magic Potion Intense Blowout that claimed to seriously reduce frizz without any extra work or treatments, we had to try it. (Honestly, whose hair couldn't use a magic potion?)

What it's like: Keratin treatments and smoothing Brazilian blowouts usually take a couple of hours, but the Simply Smooth Magic Potion Blowout had me in the salon chair no longer than a regular date with the blow dryer. The stylist shampooed and conditioned my hair as per usual, then, when it was halfway dry, applied a quarter-sized amount of the Simply Smooth Magic Potion—a cream containing keratin and collagen. Then she separated it into sections and blow-dried my (noticeably smoother) hair with a round brush.
__The fine print:__You can get the treatment for an extra $25 on top of your blowout's cost. The Magic Potion contains two active ingredients: keratin, which smooths and flattens each strand's cuticle (wonky cuticles cause frizz), and collagen, which fills in the holes that form in porous, damaged hair. It doesn't last for months, like a keratin treatment or Brazilian blowout would, but it also doesn't fade within hours or at the first sign of rain like some serums, oils and creams. Expect super-smooth hair for a few days or until the first time you wash it, and noticeably more tame strands through your third wash.
The Simply Smooth Magic Potion Blowout is available at salons nationwide, but you can get the effect at home, too, with the Simply Smooth Magic Potion line. Start with the shampoo and conditioner, then apply the at-home formula of the Magic Potion Blowout cream before every blow-dry.
The verdict: After the blowout my hair looked smooth, but not limp or flattened to my head (phew!). But the real results came later, after a 30-block walk through misty rain. Under normal circumstances, even the slightest hint of moisture would be an immediate blowout-killer on my naturally curly hair, but I was surprised (um, make that thrilled) to find, later that night, that it had stayed smooth and softened into perfect, Hollywood-worthy waves. And those perfect waves stayed, even up to three days later—absolutely frizz-free!
Translation? This is the frizz-erasing solution I've been looking for. Magic potion, indeed!
