The royal wedding may have come and gone, but the love between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will live on in history. But that's not the only thing from May 19 bound to withstand the test of time. Meghan Markle's wedding dress was totally timeless and we're predicting that brides everywhere will be copying the style of the Duchess of Sussex's gown by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy for years to come. Case in point? Bridal brand Floravere has already created a gown inspired by Meghan Markle's wedding dress that's available now for purchase—and it's not hard to see why.
"The minimalist approach to the dress with subtle, architectural lines and features was just perfect," Floravere cofounder Denise Jin explains to Brides. "But what really 'wowed' us was the neckline. It was so flattering, romantic, and elegant, with just a touch of rebelliousness."
While we also fell under the spell of Meghan's understated and elegant gown, Jin says that it's what the dress represents that has particularly struck a chord with brides-to-be. "The choices Meghan made in her bridal look really stayed true to who she is, while still paying respect to the historic traditions and context of the event," says Jin. "Usually, a royal wedding gown really embraces the romanticism of weddings with delicate laces and more intricate cuts. Meghan took the template of past royal wedding dresses and put a much more modern, minimal spin on it.
She really wore the dress, the dress didn't wear her. And that level of calling your own shots as a bride really resonates with women today."
Jin continues, "From the simple fabric, to the subtly sexy neckline, to the natural makeup, the world saw Meghan, not just a bride. And that is something that more and more brides are embracing—the idea of wanting to ultimately feel like YOU on your wedding day, instead of fitting yourself into some mold of how you think a bride 'should' look."
With that idea in mind, Floravere has created the "M Markle" wedding dress, a bridal gown inspired by the duchess, but accessible for brides everywhere, with an under $2,000 price point ($1,475, to be exact) and inclusive sizing (from 0–24).
"We absolutely loved the vision that Clare Waight Keller had with the dress and wanted to create something inspired by it, but translated a little more for those of us not marrying into the royal family," explains Jin. "Our interpretation is designed for any woman who wants to feel elegant and beautiful, regardless of the setting. We made subtle changes to the dress—shortening the sleeves and bringing the neckline slightly more off the shoulder—to make it a little less formal so that any bride can rock this look, whether she's outside in a vineyard or at the New York Public Library."
Starting today, brides can order Floravere's M Markle wedding dress to try on at home before they buy. Samples will ship in about six weeks, after which brides can purchase their made-to-order final gown for delivery in two to three months.
