A maid of honor has a lot of responsibilities and a lot on her mind. And every once in awhile, she can bump heads with an equally-busy bride.
"A bride has certain expectations of their maid of honor," says Melissa Samek, senior event consultant at Clementine Custom Events. Think planning a kick-butt bridal shower, bachelorette party and being there when the bride breaks down in stress-induced tears. "If the maid of honor doesn't live up to the expectations, then tension can arise."

If you find yourself embroiled in an unpleasant battle with your own maid of honor, take a few deep breaths and be prepared to talk it out. "The key to resolving any problem is communication," advises Samek. "Always be open and honest with each other. Avoiding the problem only makes things worse and builds more tension."
Explain, calmly, to your favorite gal pal what you need from her and why it's important to you. Or, if the tables are turned and she's ready to toss in her bouquet out of frustration, take the time to ask how she's feeling and if you two can come to a compromise.
Finally, "the bride needs to focus on what the wedding day is about and forget any other issues that may upset her," Samek says. "Easier said than done, but brides need to stay positive and enjoy every minute of the wedding day."
