Each year, it seems like new and creative proposal trends seem to quietly creep up on our Instagram feeds—does anyone remember the flash mob (No shade if you had one yourself because, really, well wanted one!)? From more traditional trends like hot air balloon rides to sandcastle proposals on the beach, to popping the question at a workout class, 2017 was full of all kinds of proposal trends. Regardless of how you get proposed to—and it really is a one-of-a-kind moment that you share with nobody else—there are a few clues as to the over-the-top proposal trends that will be popular come the new year. And you should probably know about each and every one of them...ya know, just in case.

An “Under the Sea” proposal even Ariel could get behind...

Talk about making a splash! At Hilton Hawaiian Village, the Atlantis Adventures' high-tech passenger submarine, Atlantis XIV, is an experience all its own—giving guests a front row view to Hawaii’s gorgeous marine life. This magical experience can get even more special for a proposal because, upon request, Atlantis will arrange for a diver to swim up to the submarine’s window with a “Will You Marry Me” sign. Meanwhile, at Hilton Barbados Resort's newly launched butler program is trained to handle an underwater proposal in one of the island’s famed underwater shipwrecks. A personal butler will help to orchestrate the entire proposal, from reserving the private dive in the shipwreck to curating an aquatic playlist for the experience.

A classic fine-dining proposal with a unique twist...

Perhaps one of the most classic of all proposals gets a unique spin in France at this private fine-dining experience. Set in the dreamy gardens of Le Pigonnet, one of Aix-en-Provence’s most charming and romantic hotels, “The Romantic Table” is a one-of-a-kind culinary experience and place to pop the question—or have the question popped—because your waiter will only show up to the table when you specifically call for him or her via a discreet little call button. The private meal for two is set under a trellis by a Rose Arch and surrounded by the hedges and large trees of a gorgeous garden—so with the muffling noise of a nearby fountain—you’re guaranteed to experience this most-important moment in complete seclusion without a waiter ever interrupting your tears of joy or a post-“YES!” smooch sesh.

An incredibly rare way to toast your love...

At The Jefferson, one of Washington D.C.’s poshest places to propose, lovebirds can toast to their new engagement with a glass of 296-year-old 1720 Borges Madeira. It’s the same wine that was used to toast the Declaration of Independence—which technically symbolized the U.S.’s divorce from Great Britain, but well, you get the point! Upstairs, guests can choose to splurge on the Martha Jefferson Suite, a more feminine suite where the Tiffany-Blue accents of the room might just match the box your ring came in, or the handsome Thomas Jefferson Suite, which boasts five Juliet balconies looking out onto the National Mall, original historic artwork, and an out-of-this-world soaking tub.

A spot so majestic, it’s good enough for The Crown...

If Keeneland Race Course is good enough for nobility, it certainly is good enough for you! Located in Lexington, Kentucky—the horse capital of the world—it's here that equine enthusiasts can say “Yes” or even "I do" at the number one thoroughbred racetrack in North America. While it's not usually open to the public, the Keeneland team will help set up a regal proposal at the race track’s famed starting gate or winner’s circle (where the likes of champion horse American Pharoah and The Crown herself, Queen Elizabeth II have stood!).

A whole new way to hide the ring...

This one requires some imagination—and a friend that’s able to guard your booty. Part of Florida’s “Treasure Coast,” Vero Beach and Indian River County, FL is best known for the buried treasures on its beaches. Famous shipwrecks were common in these parts centuries ago, but today, treasure hunters have unearthed millions of dollars worth of gold coins and other artifacts in the area. One way lovers are using these treasure trove shores to their advantage is by asking their bae to go on a treasure hunt, only to lead them to a spot where there’s an engagement ring buried in the sand (that’s where your watchful friend comes in handy, so no one else finds it first!).

And one for the big spender...

Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo, the over-the-top Belle Époque style property where Karl Lagerfeld designed the pool area might be one of the chicest places on the planet to rest your head at the moment, so it’s no surprise that they have a new proposal package to match. Coined the “Million Euro Proposal”, it begins with a private jet ride to Monaco from anywhere in the world, followed by a couples massage at Spa Metropole by Givenchy and then—if that wasn’t great enough already—it’s all followed up by a shopping spree spree in the Golden Square of Monte-Carlo, where guests can shop the boutiques of Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Boucheron, Cartier, and more.

Later that night, couples top off their extravagant day in the Carré d’Or (that’s French for Gold Square) penthouse suite, which is decorated with rose petals and 1,000 candles on the terrace, where you’ll find sweeping views of Monaco and the Mediterranean Sea. After a private dinner created by the Michelin-starred team at Restaurant Joël Robuchon, a plane with a “will you marry me” banner will fly over the suite. And yes, it costs over $1 million bucks!
