Your Ultimate Engagement Season Beauty Check List

Look your best when your S.O. pops the question.

You feel it, and you can see it coming—the proposal of your dreams. And when that celebratory moment comes, you can ensure a perfect manicure and a good hair day with a little engagement season beauty prep. Think about it—you'll be snapping selfies and taking photos that will last a lifetime. Besides, it's never too early to jump-start a bridal beauty routine if you ask us.

Hands, especially your left one, will be on display 24/7 after you say "yes." Get in the habit of moisturizing day and night to keep dry, cracked skin at bay. We recommend Aveeno Skin Relief Hand Cream ($6) and using Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($8) on cuticles overnight and carrying a small tube of your favorite hand lotion in your bag during the day. Take your skin-saving regimen up a notch to ensure gorgeous hands by avoiding harsh soaps, using lukewarm water and patting dry. Of course, you'll follow that up with a lipid-replenishing hand lotion like Avene XeraCalm Cream ($32). You get the idea here: lotion those hands obsessively.

Regular manicures have never been more important. Whether you opt for a pampering salon visit or go the DIY route, now's the time to step up your mani game. If you're not the nail polish type stock up on Revlon's CrazyShine Nail Buffer for shiny nails at all times. If nail polish is your favorite part of the mani, then go for neutrals. A beautiful nude or sheer hue will elongate your hands and keep all eyes on that engagement ring that's coming your way. The finishing touch for all manicures, however, is a healthy dose of cuticle oil and lotion. We like the handy applicator and compact size of OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go ($8).

Make good hair days a priority. We're not suggesting full hair and makeup 24/7, but definitely mindful of your hair to avoid a bad hair day disaster. If you air dry your hair, try a frizz-taming product like Bumble & Bumble Styling Creme ($26) to make those strands look better than ever. Little things like this, or adding a cute hair accessory atop a messy bun and making a hair color appointment before the holiday season can make all the difference (remember, pictures last longer than a bad hair day).

Not to be forgotten, is your makeup. Just like a manicure: Keep it simple. If you throw on SPF and head out the door, consider a tinted moisturizer with SPF like NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer ($45) to brighten up your complexion or swipe on a tinted lip balm for a subtle pop of color. Either way, it's all about looking like yourself, but a little better—and selfie-ready.
