Less than 24 hours after Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced their engagement with a photo of the biggest and most beautiful ring the world has ever seen, they had filled a slot in their wedding party. At least, if Ellen DeGeneres has anything to say about it.
The comedian responded to the couple’s viral engagement announcement, which featured a photo of J.Lo’s newly blinged-out left hand in front of the sunset, writing, “Yes. I’ll be your maid of honor.”
Fellow talk show host Jimmy Fallon got in on the fun too. Since DeGeneres already snagged the maid of honor spot, Fallon found himself another role in the wedding party. "Okay, I'll be the ring bearer," he commented on J.Lo's post. "Sooooo happy for you guys!!"
DeGeneres and Fallon weren't the only celebrities to wish the couple well on their big news. Jenna Dewan, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Gwen Stefani, and Kourtney Kardashian, among many others, shared congratulatory comments. And Nina Agdal hilariously wrote, “This could conveniently work as a reflector as well,” referring to the next-level shine and sparkle of Lopez’s diamond. Talk about a #stacked potential guest list.
Lopez and Rodriguez have been together since 2017, and he popped the question on Saturday while on a beach vacation. The baseball star shared the news to Instagram with the caption, “She said yes,” and Lopez posted the same photo to her feed with eight heart emojis. This is the sixth time Lopez has been engaged, and will be Rodriguez’s second marriage.
Last year, Lopez opened up about why she was glad she and Rodriguez didn’t get together until later in their lives (she’s 49, he’s 43). “[Alex] has said it was too crazy, and I didn’t know him back then, so I’m going to take his word for it. And I needed to bounce around a little bit and figure myself out,” she told Grazia, per Marie Claire. “I wasn’t ready for the healthiest things because I needed to figure out how to be healthy first—how to have self-worth, value, deal with my insecurities.”
While Jennifer Lopez may choose her sister or another one of her A-list friends for the role of maid of honor, we’re totally rooting for Ellen to take on the honor... just think of the speech she'd give!
