To honor her 15th anniversary with wife Porta de Rossi, Ellen DeGeneres pulled out all the stops, enlisting a plane with a custom sign in tow to fly past their beachfront home. The 60-year-old comedian requested that the message read "15" with a heart beside it. Everything seemed fine and dandy—that is, until the sweet gesture actually went into action. Turns out, the commemorative banner was way too small to read from afar. Oops.
In a video posted to Instagram, DeGeneres shared the blink-and-you'll-miss-it anniversary-gift-gone-hilariously-wrong. "Portia and I started dating 15 years ago today," she wrote alongside the post. "I hired a plane to fly by the house with a banner that said 15 with a heart. I should have specified the size."
That doesn't mean it wasn't well-received, however. DeGeneres can be heard in the background asking, "Can you see it?" which cued a round of giggles from the pair. A for effort, regardless!
Standing the test of Hollywood time, DeGeneres and de Rossi, 45, have been married for an entire decade (practically an eternity among the A-list crowd). After meeting at the VH1's Big in '04 Awards, the couple tied the knot in Los Angeles on August 16, 2008. Paying homage to their 10th anniversary earlier this year, DeGeneres turned to a more, er, reliable method of celebration by sharing a video montage from their wedding day to Instagram.
"Ten years ago today. This was a special day for us," The Ellen Show host wrote. The clip featured a combination of wedding portraits and candid moments, including the duo's emotional first look.
Better luck on anniversary gifts next year, Ellen!
