What if we told you that the secret to a long-lasting, happy marriage was a small elopement — and then a lavish wedding 50 years later? In Dolly Parton's case, that's exactly what is happening. The 70-year-old country music star and her longtime love (also known as her husband of 50 years to be exact), 73-year-old Carl Dean, are getting hitched... again.
"We're going to get married again!" Parton shared with People. "I'll have a beautiful wedding dress, 'cause I didn't have a big, long wedding dress when we got married and we've got a suit for him, so we're going to dress up and take a bunch of pictures." The two have plans to renew their vows on May 30, the date of their 50th wedding anniversary — this time going all out in the wedding department.
When the lovebirds met in 1964, they were doing laundry at the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville, TN. Two short years later, they were married in Georgia — with the country music star's mother as their only witness. This all went down just before Parton had released her first hit, so needless to say, there wasn't much time after that for more elaborate nuptials.
Throughout the years of their marriage, Dean has kept a very low profile — running an asphalt business — while the singer and actress has totally dominated the country music industry. They keep their relationship very low-profile, and it seems to be working for them, that's for sure. "He doesn't particularly care about being around anybody but me. He's just always asked me to leave him out of all this. He does not like all the hullabaloo," she told the Daily Mail.
Even though Dean doesn't love the spotlight, he's always been supportive. "He's like a brother and a father and a friend and a husband and a lover — all of those things to me. I think he's kind of proud that we've been in it this long!" Talk about serious #MarriageGoals.
