Watching what you eat before your big day? That doesn't mean you have to forgo dessert until your honeymoon. Just think outside of the box! New York City nutritionist Brooke Alpert shares five healthy treats guaranteed satisfy any craving.
If you need a sweet morning treat:
Keep a stash of frozen cherries in your freezer. In the a.m., microwave them for a minute, then top 'em off with a plain Greek yogurt like Fage Total. Yogurt is a great source of probiotics, which helps aid digestion (read: helps you get that flat stomach!).
If you need your afternoon chocolate:
Go ahead and eat it! Just be sure to look for a cocoa content of 65 percent or higher. Alpert especially loves dark chocolate covered almonds for an afternoon pick-me-up. The combo of protein and healthy fats help stabilize your blood sugar, she says. Try Next Organics Dark Chocolate Almonds.
If you're a sugar addict:
Throw together a fresh fruit salad and sprinkle unsweetened, shredded coconut flakes on top. Not only will you get your sweet fix, but you'll get all of the skin-loving vitamins and minerals that fruit contains, too. (And whenever possible, use local, in-season produce, which makes any salad or fruity snack taste way better.)
If salty chips from the vending machine are calling your name:
Keep a stash of seaweed snacks in your desk. Trader Joe's Roasted Seaweed Snacks, which have sea salt, contain only 30 calories per serving. (So even if you accidentally binge eat the whole bag, you're only out 60 cals.)
If you love a scoop of ice cream after dinner:
Peel a banana, freeze it, and throw it in a blender for a cool, creamy treat. Want to dress it up a bit? We love mixing it with a bit of natural, crunchy peanut butter, a few dark chocolate morsels, and sea salt. So. Good.
