The cutest trio in Hollywood officially became the cutest quad when Kristen Bell gave birth to baby Delta just three weeks ago. And now, three weeks later, Dax Shepard is opening up about Bell's arduous labor and the inspiration behind Delta's name.
The mother of two was in labor for 33 hours, ending in a C-section, Shepard explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Kristen, God bless her, was in labor for 33 hours," Shepard said during his interview.
Forever the funny man, the new dad explained that while Bell received her epidural at hour 14, he thinks dads should get something too. "I deserve something because I was along for the ride," he said. "It's still a car crash and I'm in the passenger seat. I'm playing Katy Perry and I'm breathing and I'm rubbing her back and I have fatigue and I think, 'I need something for this, help me.'"
He also gave a pretty, um, graphic description of what the gruesome C-section entailed — with a dash of humor too, of course. "So there's a sheet and then they go, 'The baby's here!' Then you peek around the sheet and they're lifting out the baby, but then you notice your wife is completely disassembled," he added. "I can see inside of her."
"I was like, 'It's a girl! Your liver's out, I think. And those are definitely your intestines. And she has ... are you all right!? Oh my God, put her back together correctly,'" he continued to explain in detail.
Never fear, though, baby and mom are all very healthy! He said his wife may as well be Wolverine she heals so quickly.
As for that name Delta, it all started as a joke. "It was a joke because our first daughter's name is Lincoln, which is very masculine," he started explaining. "A friend of mine teasingly texted me, 'Oh great, what's this one gonna be? Navy Seal? Delta Force? Green Beret?'"
After that, he was convinced of Delta's destiny. "I was reading this text out loud to Kristen and I said, 'Oh, Steve said, 'What if we named her Delta?' 'Delta! Delta Bell Shepard! That's it!' And that's it."
