We fell in love with David Harbour on Stranger Things as the heroic Chief Jim Hopper, who spent this past season helping Millie Bobby Brown's beloved character, Eleven. Now, Harbour is going to lend a helping hand IRL by officiating one lucky individual's wedding ceremony.
Yes, that's right. Tuesday night, a Twitter user (and apparent mega fan) named Ericka mentioned Harbour, asking, "What would it take to get @DavidKHarbour to be the officiant at my wedding in September?!" Apparently, not a lot. The actor responded three hours later, saying a mere 125,000 retweets would do the trick.
"125k retweets," he tweeted. "Provided date works with s3 shooting schedule, I will get ordained and perform ceremony. I get to read an esteemed love letter of my choosing, and after the cake is officially cut, I get the very first piece. #allthecakes." Because, naturally the celeb officiant deserves the first piece of wedding dessert.
Lo and behold, thanks to the mighty powers of the Internet, the tweet surpassed its goal in less than 24 hours, reaching over 138,000 retweets and over 169,000 favorites. "Dammit. Not even 24 hours. You’re kidding me," Harbour tweeted in response. He also told Ericka to DM him to make this officiant business official, and added, "I’m making it seriously hard next time, internet, this is not over between us..." This bride must truly love David Harbour to want him to officiate her wedding, so we're thankful her dream came true.
Harbour's no stranger to performing random acts for fans for the sake of retweets. And there's surprisingly no shortage of fans requesting said activities. Last October, a teenage fan asked how many retweets she would need for Harbour to take senior photos with her. He responded with 25,000, with one stipulation: "I get to wear the school sweatshirt and a hold a trombone." Sure enough, the tweet reached Harbour's goal, and he posed with his fan, trombone and all. He's truly a man of his Twitter word.
A few other celebs have also officiated weddings, but this might be the first time a fan has reached out to a celebrity via social media to do the honors. Kris Jenner officiated Colton Haynes and Jeff Leatham's October wedding, Carly Rae Jepsen performed the marriage of her best friend and her husband, and Anna Faris served as officiant at her friend and podcast cohost's wedding (while wearing Ugg boots).
Seems like if you want Harbour to do something, all you have to do is tweet and receive. Here's to the Stranger Things actor getting to add "fan wedding officiant" to his list of accomplishments.
