If Cynthia Nixon owes her fame to being Sex and the City's most style-challenged heroine, she shed any association to Miranda's power-suit wardrobe on Sunday by donning a custom Carolina Herrera gown to marry Christine Marinoni in New York. The stunning pale-green creation (a wise hue for Nixon's shock of shorn red hair) recalled looks from both the designer's Spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection (left, right) and her most recent bridal show for the Spring 2013 season (center).
First conceived as an evening look, Herrera's yellow silk-gazar dress splashed onto the runway with a streak of gray satin trailing from the waist—a style that deviates from similar strappy, ribbon-waisted designs thanks to geometric bands of silk organza appliquéd along the neckline and bodice. In a white palette, those same sheer panels create a softer, monochromatic effect that de-emphasizes the waistline and elongates the silhouette—not that Nixon, at 5' 11, needed any help there.
The actress's wedding gown combined elements from both collections, in part retaining the original focus on strong color (a growing trend for contemporary brides) while also evoking an ethereal feel from tiers of silk-organza down the skirt. Nixon accented her dress with a large bouquet of white peonies, and Marinoni, an education activist, wore a dark suit with a lighter vest and coordinating green tie.
