Memories are priceless, and it's obviously important to document every milestone, holiday, achievement, and beyond. But what if those memories begin before birth? And why shouldn't they?!
In a day and age where we tend to record and share everything from our outfits to our meals, it's only fitting that women document their pregnancies, too—whether its for their eyes only, or to share in the future.
We've rounded up some of our favorite ways to memorialize the incredibly special nine months.
Chances are you've seen these on your Instagram feeds, and while they might not be for everyone—they're an adorable way to document the way your body (and baby!) are changing. Whether you opt for belly stickers, cute captions, or edited photos with apps like Lil Pics, which lets you select cute graphics and photos to make each bump-shot unique. Share with all your followers, or keep it between you and your inner circle. Either way, it will be crazy to see just how much your body changes through each trimester.
The art of letter writing may not be as trendy as it once was, but many moms-to-be love taking time out to write special love notes to their babies while in the womb. They can be something as simple as a quick message, a retelling of a story you want them to know, a poem—anything. Compile these in a scrapbook or special box, and your soon-to-be son or daughter will cherish them for decades to come.
For those a bit more tech-oriented, it's not uncommon to create an email address for your baby. Not only will it ensure they have have one secured for when they need it (hey, they run out fast, right?) but you can sporadically email your baby from anywhere, and they can check it when they're old enough, as a unique way to make memories.
Vlogs are another great way to record messages for your unborn, and by making quick video messages you can one day edit them into a longer clip, or save them separately. Either way, your little one will love being able to hear your voice and see what you looked like as they grew on the inside.
Keeping an old fashioned pen and paper journal, like Expecting You: A Keepsake Pregnancy Journal enables you to put into words every feeling, thought, sensation and experience. A perfect size and artfully designed, it even features prompts to get you thinking when you may have some writers block, or pregnancy brain.
Maternity Photo Shoot
If you don't mind being in front of the camera, a professional maternity photo shoot is a great way to document such a special moment in time. Typically done sometime in the third trimester, they can be taken at home, in the nursery, or among a special landscape that's near and dear to your heart. Find a photographer you trust and is highly recommended (perhaps the one you used for your engagement photos!) and try to book the session for a time where you're still comfortable and feeling well. Then, embrace the bump and strike a pose!
Once the baby makes his or her debut, it might be hard to remember (or believe) that you ever had the bump you did. So, why not memorialize it with a belly cast? Often performed at special locations that offer momma services like maternity-massage, you can also DIY it at home (with a helping hand, of course.) Once it's complete, you can dress it, paint it, or even hang it in the nursery.
