Craig David doesn't want to stop at just one royal performance. The singer/songwriter, 36, wants to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding—one month after he is set to perform at Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd birthday.
The English musician spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his home country and the soon-to-be newlyweds.
“Listen, if I got invited to witness one of the most biggest talking points of modern history when it comes to the royal family, it would be amazing to be there,” David said. “It's a beautiful couple, and it's great to see they found love and I just feel like it's going to grow because there's a generation who are going to discover the royal family in a slightly different way, I think this is a really good time for Meghan and for Harry.”
Though David and the prince “have been in the same places at the same time,” the singer says he has yet to meet the bride. He added, however, that Markle reminds him of Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana.
“[Meghan has] so much potential to bring a lot of the qualities that Princess Diana brought out because Princess Diana really fought for her causes, and she felt like she was a voice of the people and I feel that Meghan's got that and Harry's got that,” he marveled. “For the new generation, they're going to see this and be like, 'Wow, you're really activists! You're really out there talking for us!' And I think that's going to be incredible, so it's only just the start of that, but more importantly, I'm just happy that they found love.”
Though it's unclear whether David was invited to the royal wedding (the invitations were sent out just days after the interview), he said if he's there, he'll want to take the stage (which will be possibly populated by the likes of Ed Sheeran and the Spice Girls, who are rumored to be preforming).
“If there was a song that they felt was fitting and it was something that they both wanted, come on, it'd be a pleasure to go and perform for them,” David said. “Listen, Harry… you pick the songs that are going to make it a special day for you and Meghan, that's what it's all about!”
