Proposing to someone is a big deal. But the only thing more intense than one proposal? Two — and this couple somehow pulled off a double proposal perfectly.
Tori Monaco and her girlfriend (spoiler alert: now fiancée) Berkley Cade met online and started dating a year ago and immediately connected on a deep level. "We are each other's first same-sex relationship, so we were blown away by our ability to connect with each other immediately and find the happiness we had been looking for," Tori told Buzzfeed News. Berkley began plotting her proposal a few months ago with the help of her mom, Kristy, and that's when things got interesting.
Berkley, who serves in the Air Force and is stationed in Texas, decided that the best time and place to propose would be during a game of Pictionary when the entire family, including Tori, would be together in Washington. Coincidentally, Kristy also got a call from Tori, who said she too had purchased an engagement ring and wanted to propose in Washington. Kristy is the real MVP because she started hatching a plan to surprise both her daughter and future daughter-in-law in one unforgettable game. "When in the universe will there ever be two lesbians that want to propose at the same time, the same day, the same place and the same way? I have to get it right," Kristy said, according to Tori.
Here's how it went down: Berkley drew someone getting down on one knee and tried to get Tori to guess what she was drawing — she then planned to take out her ring and propose — but little did she know that when she turned around, Tori was there with a ring of her own. In a video of the proposal (which has now gone viral), Berkley is so shocked that she can't speak, and only nodded her head yes. Then, she pulled out her own box and the two found out that they had been duped into the sweetest double proposal to ever happen.
"When she began drawing the picture and had her hands shaking and was taking so long to draw the prompt, I had my heart pounding thinking she must know I am going to propose," Tori said. "There is no way she is proposing, too. And when I got down on one knee and proposed and she was struck mute, I figured I would give a speech and she would say yes, but instead she pulls out her own ring. I [was] laughing at the coincidence, crying tears of happiness, and unbelievably shocked that something so perfect was happening to me." The couple is planning a wedding for September 27, 2019.
