Breaking news: Weddings cost money. For many couples, tying the knot means pouring tens of thousands of dollars into one elaborate day, which ultimately becomes detrimental to their future finances. But one North Carolina couple wasn't looking to break the bank for their nuptials. Instead, the bride turned to Amazon to help supply their special day—only spending $3,000 on the entire affair!
When Ashley Hicks's now-husband Tre proposed to her in February, neither of them could justify spending a large amount of money on a wedding, ABC7 reports. That's when the couple's wedding planner recommended Hicks use Amazon for the majority of her wedding-related purchases, including her dress.
Hicks first found a $1000 dress at a local bridal store which she loved. But she hated the price tag. So to save money, she found a gown of a similar style on Amazon from a dressmaker in China. She read reviews (all positive) and had her measurements taken before she placed the order. Two weeks later, her wedding dress was delivered at her doorstep. And it fit like a glove.
"I paid $100," said Hicks per ABC 7. "Technically, it was $99, but I paid $100 and I think a few cents for tax. She was like, 'OK it will be here in two weeks.' It came, I put it on, and it fit perfectly."
When it came to the majority of her wedding purchases, Hicks would visit local stores and websites for decor inspiration and then find similar items on Amazon for a fraction of the cost.
“We bought my dress, shoes, bridesmaid dresses, their shoes, their jewelry, my husband’s suspenders, all the groomsmen’s gifts—except bow ties—our table settings, and the plates, it was a long list,” said Hicks. "We had about 150 guests, and I probably spent about $3,000 in total, including our food, all the attire, decorations, everything."
We've seen a lot of thrifty brides, but this one might just take the cake. The best part? According to the news station, Hicks and her husband have absolutely no regrets. And, Amazon is now her go-to for every celebration she hosts.
"Any event in the future, I would do it anytime," Hicks said. "Amazon is amazing."
For brides looking to save on their big day, Amazon could be the best place to start. If Hicks can have the wedding of her dreams for a (somewhat) small chunk of change, so can you.
