Engaged on July 4 — married two days before 2017 — for Brianna Keilar, the end of 2016 was quite eventful. The CNN correspondent married her fiancé Fernando Lujan in Las Vegas this past weekend in a celebration with close friends and family.
“Starting off 2017 with a lot of blessings after getting married and ringing in the new year surrounded by friends and family,” the 35-year-old CNN correspondent captioned an Instagram with a photo of her family dancing at her big day. “Big XO to my husband, Fernando, and his groomsmen for serenading me and the bridesmaids with a little help from mariachis.”
Though details are sparse on their ceremony, the December 30th nuptials included a CNN-focused guest list including Keilar's colleagues Wolf Blitzer and Dana Bash. Another surprise guest that only makes sense in Vegas? ELVIS!
The beautiful bride wore a white, one-shoulder ruffled silk tea-length dress. She wore her hair down and rocked statement earrings and a sleek bracelet, and sparkly peep-toe pumps. Her new hubs wore his military uniform, looking dapper and formal — and dare we say slightly out of place in the wedding's 'Sin City' setting.
“It was just the two of us on our terrace during the fireworks," she explained. "And yes, he did get down on one knee! We celebrated afterward at Fiola Mare in Georgetown. He had asked them to keep the kitchen open late and the chefs graciously agreed.”
The bride-to-be initially broke the news on Facebook, writing, "I’m pretty excited about spending the rest of my life with this guy,” on her public page.
The couple first met four years ago during a post-work happy hour. “I was covering the White House at the time and he was working at a defense think tank in Washington between deployments to Afghanistan,” she revealed to The Knot. “Thus started my trying — and his rebuffing my attempts — to set him up with my girlfriends. I tried to get him to go on a date with one of my best friends and it went nowhere, so I didn’t press it.”
And the rest is history — looks like it was meant to be! The moral of the story? Always go to your work happy hour. See below for the more photos of their sweet celebration.
