Lane proposed to his now fiancée in a truly fitting way for a country artist. The moment started when Lane began playing a song he wrote just for her titled "Big Big Plans." As the lyrics, "Right now we’re back in her hometown / and I’m down on one knee” played, Lane literally got down on one knee and asked Bushnell to be his wife! Bushnell shared a snap of the aftermath of the moment to Instagram. "I can’t stop smiling 😭 I feel so incredibly blessed that every misstep, mistake and heartache has led me to you.
I couldn’t be happier to call you mine, forever. The journey was well worth it. Thank you Christopher Eric Lane for softening my heart and making it whole. Never going to stop telling you how much I love you and I will hold onto you forever and ever! Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it," she captioned it. She also shared a video of the moment with her fans.
Bushnell told People that it wasn't until she started processing the lyrics that she realized what was going on. “I lost it,” she said. “It was the happiest moment of my life!” She added, “Chris is the most thoughtful person. He clearly put so much time and thought into not only the song, but also making sure everyone I love most was surrounding us in that moment. Holding each other, hearing the song for the first time and then seeing him get down on one knee is a moment I’ll never forget. Watching the video back was almost just as emotional as the proposal itself—I still get teary-eyed even thinking about it.
Seeing all of those memories in one place and then reliving the best day of my life is pretty special!”
For Lane, the nerves almost got the best of him. “Even though I felt pretty confident I was going to get the ‘Yes,’ I’ve never been that nervous,” he told People. “When I got to the third verse of the song and knew it was time, I pretty much blacked out. The next thing I knew, she said ‘yes’ and the nerves just lifted! It’s an explosion of excitement, pure joy, and love.” He decided on the simple proposal because he knew Bushnell wouldn't want anything elaborate. After speaking to her parents, it was clear that their Oregon home was the perfect backdrop for the unforgettable moment.
But even though he has been planning the proposal for weeks, it didn't quite go according to plan. Turns out, some dog poop got in the way. “As I was about to propose... I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet,” he said with a laugh. “Not at all how I planned it out in my head!”
Lane chose a 3.5 carat emerald-cut diamond ring, which he knew was the perfect choice because the couple went ring shopping together five months ago. “Watching her try on rings, I learned she loves emerald-cut diamonds,” he said. “I even heard her say that was the exact kind of ring she wanted. Thankfully she made it pretty easy to pick out!”
While the couple has been friends for years, they didn't begin dating until last fall when they made their debut at the BMI Country Awards in November 2018. Bushnell, was the season 20 winner of The Bachelor and was previously engaged to Ben Higgins, before the couple called it quits in 2017. In March, she packed up her Los Angeles home and moved to Lane's home in Nashville.
Since Lane is going on tour with fellow country music star Brad Paisley, most of the wedding planning will be up to Bushnell. Although Bushnell claims she is going to need some assistance to pull it off. “I’m definitely going to need some help,” she said. “I have never really thought about what kind of wedding I want but I definitely want it to be laid-back and somewhat intimate. Oh, and late-night snacks. I’m all about having snacks after hitting the dance floor all night!”
Laid-back with midnight snacks? Sounds like the perfect wedding!
