And he doesn't understand a word of it

After more than seven years of marriage, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have stumbled upon the secret to relationship success: Argue in different languages. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the Australian actor shared that, though he and Pataky rarely fight, when they do, Pataky often slips into her native Spanish.

"When I hear the Spanish directed at me, it's usually in pretty unfortunate, controversial, aggressive situations, so I'm just thinking, like, what is she saying right now, and what's my comeback to this? [It's] when we're fighting, basically—which is never," he said. "When she gets angry enough, drop the façade, the English façade, and it's like, 'Taka, taka, taka,'" he added, mimicking what he hears when Pataky speaks rapid Spanish.

Hemsworth noted that he's completely outnumbered by Spanish speakers in his home, since 5-year-old daughter India and 4-year-old twin sons Tristan and Sasha are already fluent. The Avengers: Infinity War star admitted that he only knows "one sentence" in Spanish, but "sort of pretends" to understand what the rest of his family is talking about. "My wife will be telling them off—'Taka, taka, taka,' that's what it sounds like to my ear—and I'll be standing there, like, 'That's right!'" Hemsworth joked, adding that he immediately leans over to Pataky to ask, "What'd you say? What'd you tell 'em?"

Hemsworth, who tied the knot with Pataky in a low-key ceremony in late 2010, has previously spoken about how he and Pataky had to re-fall in love after having kids. "My wife and I fell in love, had kids, didn't really see each other for a few years, then fell back in love," he told GQ Australia in November 2017. "Once you have children, every instinct and every moment of your time is consumed by that. You've got nothing for each other—so make sure you have date night even if it's once in a blue moon, because most of the time, you're just too tired and you'd actually prefer to sleep."
