Anthony Rizzo is on his way to being a married man! The Chicago Cubs first baseman announced he's engaged to girlfriend—now fiancée—Emily Vakos. The athlete shared the special news via Twitter Thursday night, and fans were quick to rejoice.
"Luckiest guy in the world! She said YES. Future Mr. & Mrs. Rizzo," he wrote.
According to the gorgeous photo, Rizzo picked the perfect backdrop to propose to his soon-to-be wife. The two are seen smiling happily on a boat, and just look at that spectacular sunset! The Chicago skyline isn't too hard on the eyes, either. On Instagram, he shared two other photos from the momentous occasion, and in one we can see Vakos's stunning diamond sparkler! This man has great taste, we must say. And judging from her joyous expression, we're gonna assume she'd agree.
Rizzo's teammates also took to Twitter to share their congrats. "Welcome to the family, Emily!" David Ross, who is also a Dancing With the Stars runner-up, exclaimed. "Congrats to these two," Kris Bryant shared.
During a locker room interview, Rizzo shared details on the romantic proposal. "We were on a boat in Lake Michigan, and I had some fireworks go off. It was great. She was totally surprised, and somehow I managed to keep that under wraps," he confessed. "It's been great. A lot of people were sending their congratulations, and I thank everyone for their support. It's really nice."
The couple had been dating a little more than a year prior to the engagement, and were inseparable from the start. She accompanied him to visit Ross during his appearance on DWTS, they hit the red carpet together during the 59th Grammy Awards, and, of course, his lady love was in Cleveland to watch her beau and the rest of his team take home the World Series trophy.
