Earlier this week, Ed Sheeran sparked rumors that he and fiancée Cherry Seaborn had secretly tied the knot when he performed a gig while wearing a shiny band on his left hand. The rumors seemed all but confirmed when he showed up at the BRIT Awards in London on Wednesday still wearing the ring—until Sheeran revealed that it's actually an engagement ring.
As if this bucking of tradition weren't sweet enough, the "Shape of You" singer went on to share that Seaborn had crafted the mangagement ring with her own two hands. "I never saw why men didn't wear engagement rings. It's the same commitment either way," he told British talk show Lorraine on the event's red carpet. "Cherry made it for me herself out of silver clay. I really like it. I haven't told anyone that, either!" In another red carpet interview, with the U.K.'s Sky News, Sheeran added, "It's an engagement ring, because I feel like...I don't know. I feel like it's good to both do things."
He also revealed that he and Seaborn have yet to set a wedding date. "I don't know, but I don't know if I'd tell you," he said. "It'll be a situation like this where no one knows."
Sheeran and Seaborn, childhood friends who reconnected at Taylor Swift's Fourth of July party in Rhode Island in 2015, announced their engagement last month on Instagram. "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx," Sheeran captioned a photo of him kissing Seaborn on the cheek. About a week later, fans caught a glimpse of Seaborn's own engagement ring, a simple platinum, silver, or white gold band with a sizable diamond in the center, which, sadly, was presumably not handcrafted by Sheeran.
